PRLog (Press Release) –
Jan 23, 2008 – The areas' motorists are to receive purpose-made wipes to use in their vehicles to remove any traces of a satellite navigation (satnav) system being in use, the Norwich Evening News reports.
Over the next few weeks, hundreds of drivers are set to be given the wipes, which will be handed out in moisture-secure plastic wallets which advise drivers via a sticker to remove their satnavs from unattended vehicles.
Chief Inspector Kevin Clarke commented: "We have seen a considerable number of satnav thefts in recent weeks and we know that lots of people will have received the systems as Christmas presents this year.
"Our key messages are that you should always remove your satnav from your vehicle when you leave it but you should also remove the cradle or holder from your windscreen as well."
He added that motorists who leave the cradle behind could find that criminals think the satnav has been hidden in the glovebox and smash a window to get to it.
The publication reports that in the 39 satnav thefts having taken place since December 1st 2007, almost all the incidents involved the smashing of a window so that thieves could gain access to the vehicle.
In related news, such incidents have dropped across the south Worcestershire area, the Worcester News reports.
