There are over 200 Travel Nurse agencies in the US of varying sizes that place about 40,000 Travelers in a $10 billion industry. About 20% of these agencies are publicly traded and are very large. About 40% are medium size companies with 200+ Travelers on billing and the remaining are family owned businesses. Most agencies regardless of size will have assignments throughout the United States. The larger agencies generally will have more assignments to choose from but will pay less, and will not be flexible. The smaller agencies will have better pay rates, will have less assignments but will try to do what you want. In general, all agencies will have the same benefits except 401k programs which less then 1% of Travelers participate in.
It is the one that you have the best chemistry with their recruiters. The recruiter is going to be the one that can get things done for you and just like companies, there are good one's and bad one's. Most Travelers have 3-5 recruiters and agencies that they stay in touch with.
