A group of personal chefs from the metro NY area are putting a new spin on healthy cooking. For every gift certificate sold from January 16 until Valentine’s Day, these chefs will donate $5 to the American Heart Association.
“There are a lot of cardiac issues on my wife’s side of the family”, says Glenn Burgess, personal chef and owner of Supper's Ready Personal Chef Service, Inc. “So when my friend Chef Lia from Home Cooking Consultant came to me with this idea, I signed on immediately.”
The “Go Red for Women” movement is an initiative by the American Heart Association to raise awareness that heart disease, often viewed as a man’s disease, is the number one killer of women today.
“Personal chefs can help women in so many ways,” Chef Burgess mentions. “By offering a cooking class featuring healthy recipes they can begin to eat better. When we show them how simple it can be to put a home-cooked meal on the table, it eliminates a lot of stress from their lives as well. Breaking the hold that fast-food has over the family dinner table is an important start to better eating, and that directly affects your heart health.”
Supper's Ready can also prepare an in-home dinner party featuring heart healthy menus. "Hosting a dinner party in your home is a great way to entertain, whether for business or pleasure. A personal chef takes the stress away from the host, and less stress means a healthier life," says Chef Glenn.
Go Red for Women’s “National Wear Red Day” is February 1. Many employers help the American Heart Association to raise funds on that day by allowing employees to wear jeans and a red top in exchange for a $5 donation.
