They’re one of the highlights of a specialist Wrist & Pocket Watches sale at Fellows & Sons, the auctioneers and valuers in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter. The sale will start at 11am on Monday 21 January 2008.

Porsche, most famous for making exquisite sports cars, has also designed watches since the 1970s.

Founded by design guru Ferdinand Alexander Porsche, the design Porsche group’s design work included cars and many stylish everyday items. He designed his first chronograph in 1973, styling the dial on the dashboard of the Porsche 911 sports car.

The Porsche items in this auction are expected to sell for between £90 and £780, which is about 15 per cent of the recommended retail price. They include ladies’ and gentlemen’s stainless steel quartz wrist watches, as well as aluminium and titanium cased models.

Some of the watches for sale include:

• A gentleman’s stainless steel quartz wrist watch.
Estimate £180 - £240

• A gentleman’s titanium automatic wrist watch.
Estimate £280 - £380

• A gentleman’s titanium cased automatic split second chronograph wrist watch.
Estimate £680 - £780

Stephen Whittaker, managing partner of Fellows & Sons, said: “Porsche is a brand associated with style, quality and luxury, which goes for their watches as well as their cars.

“These items are very desirable and come with a prestigious and aspirational name, which will no doubt make them popular lots in the auction. Watches are always an appealing purchase, particularly for men, but we also have a good number of ladies’ watches in this sale.”

The Porsche designed watches are now made by Swiss watch-makers Eterna, who were acquired by the Porsche family in 1995. Eterna has been responsible for many watch innovations including the five ball bearing winding automatic rotor, which is now used by all watch manufacturers.
