ATLANTA, Ga. – Spring Book Show 2008, the South’s largest bargain book show, comes to Atlanta’s World Congress Center on March 28-30, and the show is shaping up to be a book-buying blowout.
According to Larry May of Knoxville, Tenn., the show organizer, vendors wanting table space will be out of luck if they don’t act quickly. Of 560 total tables available to vendors at the Georgia World Congress Center in downtown Atlanta, only 10 tables as of Jan. 7 remained unsold for the show, which is expected to be a sellout.
Participating book dealers will be offering more than 50,000 book titles to buyers from chain and independent bookstores; specialty retailers; public and academic libraries; church book stores; department stores; and school media specialists.
The show is timed to allow booksellers an opportunity to stock up for the summer selling season, which is characterized by vacations and beach reading.
A gathering to permit vendors and buyers to socialize is planned for the evening of March 28.
May said the largest remainder dealers from the United States, Canada and Great Britain will be attending the Atlanta show, where they’ll be able to buy stock for as much as 80 to 90 percent off suggested retail price. Vendors will display their wares – the largest collection of remainder books, returns, white sales and promotional books in the nation – at 560 display units in over 70,000 square feet of space.
