New Disposable May Soon Empower Healthcare Staff

A New Type Of Disposable Nasal Insert Recently Cleared By The FDA For Odor Control May Soon Benefit Healthcare Staff, Patients and Visitors.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release) - Jan 07, 2008 -
In the age old battle against healthcare odors there may soon be a new weapon added to the medical industry arsenal. The product is a single-use nasal insert that comes pretreated with potent natural extracts. Instead of being applied at the point of origin in the actual healthcare environment, this new odor control weapon is placed inside the nose. In its design, clear monofilament line is used to connect two scented pads which are inserted inside the nose. Inventors Dave Foggia and Michael Stewart of Santa Fe, NM. claim the monofilament line allows the insert to be both ultra-comfortable and completely hidden from view. They have developed an illustrational website at http://www.nasalinsert.com.

The inventors expect to license the new product to disposables manufacturers that supply different industries with safety and personal protection products. Presently, they are focusing efforts on US. healthcare where they see obvious need and anticipate heavy use. The FDA recently cleared the product as a non-medical device. They have also been approached and are discussing nasal drug delivery applications with certain companies.

The general idea to develop a nasal-based odor control insert struck Stewart several years back while visiting a sick relative in the hospital. He was exposed to strong odors and observed that the medical staff, patients, and other visitors were all unprotected. After proposing the notion to Foggia, the two eventually created the current invention through mutual brainstorming and the testing and refinement of simple hand-made prototypes. “What this invention means is now virtually anyone, anywhere, can be protected from unpleasant odors in a very personal and convenient way that is completely undetected by others”, says Foggia. They suggest that their “Undetectable Nasal Insert” will be used by medical staff to reduce workplace stress and improve job performance. Likewise, when given out to patients and visitors they predict it will help reduce complaints and increase overall satisfaction with the healthcare experience - at an insignificant cost.
