FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
PRLog (Press Release) –
Jan 04, 2008 – Myoutdoorspace, which is a social network site for outdoor fans, has recently been launched for people keen on various outdoor activities, such as hunting, fishing, camping, cycling, and outdoor sports, such as mountain biking, surfing, rafting, scuba diving, snowboarding, skiing, etc.
The idea behind the new website is to allow users to share outdoor experience by posting stories, blogs, pictures, and videos. They can also join a forum to discuss topics such as which places are favourable for bass fishing in a given year or what hurricane would enhance surfing experience. The most popular forum topics so far are related to bass fishing, deer hunting, fishing and hunting gear. The website also features regularly updated classifieds where users can browse fishing guides or get information about future events or fish and hunting trips. For instance, there is an advertisement for a traditional Russian – style bear hunt, a jeep for sale, and Kilimanjaro trekking and climbing expedition in Tanzania, Africa. Users may also use this section to post advertisements about anything they are interested in, such as any fishing or hunting gear they would like to buy. In the blogs, users can describe their experience in the form of a story, often accompanied by pictures to prove that they really caught a given fish, for instance. For the short period since the launch of the website, many people have posted their stories, which are often the outset of numerous discussion and useful advice. Being part of the social network at Myoutdorspace is done through signing up for free membership, like in other popular networking sites. Users set up a profile where they can describe themselves, as well as their outdoor hobbies and interest, and can post pictures, videos, or stories. They can then browse the existing network to find new or old friends, or they can invite friends to join Myoutdoorspace. As the community grows, the idea is for the network to be able to provide many new features based on feedback and suggestions. The popularity of social network sites over the recent years is tremendous. While there is still immense interest in traditional networks such as mailing groups, MySpace and Facebook, there is also a tendency for focusing on more specific user details, such as work (LinkedIn is an example here), or hobbies, which is the case with Myoutdoorspace. The popularity of such websites and the recent takeovers of some of them have proven that this is a significant sector on the World Wide Web, and also one with great financial potential.
