FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
PRLog (Press Release) –
Jan 01, 2008 – According to Minister Killeen, "The Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government funding, administered as part of the Environment Fund, will assist the Council with the costs it has incurred in operating its recycling facilities during the first six months of 2007. The costs associated with operating such facilities continue to rise, which is why I am delighted that EUR131,900 has been allocated to Clare County Council."
The Clare T.D. congratulated the Council for its ongoing commitment to providing Recycling Centres and Bring Banks. He said it was clear that Clare's impressive waste management infrastructure was benefiting consumers and helping to increase environmental awareness. "Members of the public in Clare presently benefit from 54 Bring Banks. These local authority facilities, which are complemented by the provision of five recycling centres and transfer stations, will be the subject of increased consumer activity during the coming days and weeks due to the large of volume of waste collected over the Christmas and New Year period", he explained. The Environment Fund was established with the revenues obtained from the Plastic Bag Levy introduced in March 2002 and the Landfill Levy introduced in July 2002. The Fund is used to provide assistance or support in respect of a range of waste management, litter and other environmental initiatives and since November 2002, almost EUR100m has been allocated in direct grant assistance towards the capital costs of providing a range of local authority recycling projects. -ENDS- Notes to Editor: - Tony Killeen T.D., Minister of State at the Department of Environment Heritage and Local Government and Communication Energy and Natural Resources with special responsibility for Environment and Energy, is available for interview and further comment on 0035387-2525304.
