Montgomery, Ala.--- Many homes in America have at least one or two old cell phones lying in a drawer or closet somewhere, doing nothing but collecting dust. Most people are unaware that cell phones such as these can be put to good use; they can be employed by organizations and businesses that use them for fundraising. One such organization is the Alabama Retired State Employees’ Association Foundation (ARSEA).
ARSEA is collecting used and unwanted cell phones to raise money to give to groups in Alabama that help improve the lives of seniors, such as the UAB Center for Aging. ARSEA is asking the public to help by donating unneeded cell phones, which can be dropped off at the ARSEA offices, 450 S. Union St., Montgomery, AL 36104. They are open Monday-Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Cell phones can also be mailed to that address.
The donated cell phones are sent to Pace Butler Corporation of Edmond, Okla., a leader in the cell phone recycling industry http://www.pacebutler.com. Pace Butler pays for each shipment of cell phones they receive, while ensuring that each phone is recycled in a responsible manner and that no phone ever ends up in a landfill. The money raised benefits a worthy cause while the environment is spared of cell phones’ harmful toxins.
“By donating cell phones to ARSEA, the public not only helps senior citizens, they also help the environment, while at the same time getting rid of unneeded clutter in their homes,” said Sara Phillips, Chapter Relations Manager for ARSEA.
The Alabama Retired State Employees’ Association was organized in Montgomery on March 6, 1980. The association was formed as an advocate for a strong, stable, solvent retirement system and adequate retirement benefits for state retirees.
ARSEA has a board made up of 12 retired state and local government employees. They are dedicated to providing funding for research and increasing awareness of programs benefiting the aging population in Alabama.
