Ask someone to name famous scientists and invariably the name Galileo Galilei comes up. Considered the father of modern science by many, few people really know what Galileo did. Using only basic mathematics, no calculus, no algebra, Galileo discovered numerous laws of nature.
The Starry Messenger is an interactive dramatic presentation that brings the noted Italian mathematician to museums, libraries, and schools to discuss his telescopic discoveries. The program, based on Galileo's book "Siderius Nuncius" includes a public lecture by Galileo, followed by a question and answer session where Galileo meets the audience providing a chance to look through his telescope and ask questions about his work, life and times.
Mr. Francis portrays Galileo using over thirty years of professional acting experience on stage, film and television. A Physical Science and Physics teacher and formerly a lecturer for ten years at the Charles Hayden Planetarium at Boston's Museum of Science, Mr. Francis combines the science of Astronomy with the dramatic skills of an actor.
There will be two presentations of The Starry Messenger at the Casper Planetarium http://natronaschools.org/
