PORTLAND, Oregon – The Portland-based band, The Insomniacs, has been nominated for a Blues Music Award, by The Blues Foundation. The Blues Music Awards (formerly the WC Handy Awards) are national awards issued yearly by The Blues Foundation and are widely regarded as the most prestigious awards bestowed on a blues artist. The Insomniacs received its nomination in the Best New Artist category for it's 2007 release, Left Coast Blues.
This year's Blues Music Awards ceremony will be held on May 8, 2008 at the Grand Casino Event Center in Tunica Resort, Mississippi. Winners are selected through votes cast by Blues Foundation members.
"This has been an incredible year for the Insomniacs,"
The Insomniacs hit the Portland blues scene in 2006 with a self-produced recording and quickly earned a Muddy Award from the Cascade Blues Association for "Best New Act". Soon after, they were picked up by Delta Groove Music and released "Left Coast Blues" in August 2007. This was quickly followed by a 26-city "Left Coast Tour" that introduced the band to top venues and fans up and down the west coast.
While on tour, the band received 6 Muddy Award nominations that resulted in an award for "Best Contemporary Act" for 2007. The heavy tour schedule along with steady worldwide radio play and support has resulted in broad critical acclaim and Left Coast Blues scoring 26 weeks on the Blues Charts.
Currently on tour, the Insomniacs will be back in Portland for a special performance on New Year's Eve at Duff's Garage. In 2008 the band will expand its tour and festival schedule to cover cities across the United States.
