Jivamukti, one of New York’s first and most prestigious yoga schools, is launching an innovative course on Bhagavad Gita, the world’s oldest text on yoga philosophy. Designed as an interactive study for yoga teachers and students, the eight-week course includes lectures, power points on the history of Gita interpretation, reenactments of scenes from the epic, live music, meditations, and workbook exercises that bring the Gita’s message into daily life.
“Since our inception over twenty years ago, our intention has been to balance the physical aspects of yoga with instruction in the philosophy,”
To head up the course, titled “Advanced Gita,” Jivamukti enlisted Joshua M. Greene from Hofstra University’s religion department. Greene, a twenty-year veteran of Gita instruction, is author of the bestselling biography “Here Comes The Sun: The Spiritual and Musical Journey of George Harrison” and producer of numerous award-winning films on journeys to enlightenment.
Classes will run on successive Tuesdays from 8:15pm to 9:45pm starting February 5, 2008. The course tuition is $120 or $20 for single classes. Registration is limited. Jivamukti is located at 841 Broadway at 13th Street.
