Travellers more concerned with seeing the natural beauty of New Zealand on a budget will soon have a new transportation option ... a mobile bach for two.
Just in time for their 10th anniversary, Backpacker - one of New Zealand’s original and largest campervan rental companies - has added a new model to their campervan fleet, specially designed for budget-conscious adventure travel. Younger holidaymakers can get in on the action as well, as the minimum age to drive it is 18, lower than that for other models.
Dubbed the Breezer, the new model is an economical, high quality vehicle with a sleeping capacity for two. Drawing on ample experience, Backpacker has ensured the Breezer comes all geared up for the intrepid duo. Standard equipment and features include kitchen facilities, a bench that slides out into a double bed, pots, pans, crockery, cutlery, sleeping bags and pillows, and even a 44 litre chilly bin and portable gas stove. Sturdy roof racks, great storage capacity, an mp3 player and air conditioning in the driver’s cabin round out the package.
The Backpacker Breezer will launch with a cracking good rental rate of $84 per day (based on 35+ day rate) for the month of December. Bookings are available from all New Zealand branches as of 10th December, with travel from 12th December.
“Some backpackers travel on tight budgets and would rather put most of their cash into the adventure component of their trip. They just want a place to lay their head so they can rest up for the next activity” says Nicole Bailey, Brand Manager, Backpacker. “They want basic, budget-friendly options when it comes to their vehicle and accommodation, but still demand – and deserve – quality solutions. We are excited to introduce the Backpacker Breezer to our line-up; it is such a natural fit for this traveller.”
Based on the Mitsubishi L300 Van, the Breezer – like the rest of the Backpacker fleet – meets the tough new low-emission standards set out by VTNZ, New Zealand’s leading vehicle testing company. In fact, the Breezer received a 5-star approval rating, the highest VTNZ offers.
“Our vehicles are ideal for adventure travellers who are becoming increasingly aware of their carbon footprint,” says Bailey. “Reducing that footprint and helping to preserve New Zealand’s natural beauty is important to us too, and we have taken steps to ensure that our vehicles are approved to bear the VTNZ’s ‘low emitting’ vehicle stickers.”
