Sherman Oaks, CA – Drive Kids to be Fit, a non-profit organization dedicated to combating childhood obesity, has developed a free program for students and their parents. Starting in January of 2008, five schools will compete in a fitness challenge, created to teach, motivate and encourage some of the children in the Los Angeles County School district who need it the most. “Our goal is to reach as many children suffering from childhood obesity as possible,” says Max Mikhaiel, CEO of Drive Kids to be Fit and owner of Max Fitness Academy.
Mikhaiel and his team have developed a 15-week fitness and nutrition program which has been hugely successful. Most recently, the efforts of Drive Kids to be Fit were recognized with a proclamation from the City of Los Angeles, presented by the office of City Councilman Jack Weiss. Corporations have expressed interest in sponsorship and actress Vanessa Williams recorded a PSA to get the word out. “Participation and funding are key elements to the success of our organization,”
Drive Kids to be Fit is a community partner in the National Institute of Health’s We Can! Program (Ways to Enhance Children's Activity & Nutrition).
