Central Florida is now home to a new group of motorcycle riders who love to put the rubber on the road and miles on their machines, the Central Florida Long Riders. A merger of two groups, the Central Florida Motorcycle Connection and Central Florida Honda Riders, Central Florida Long Riders (CFLR) provides endurance riders the opportunity to experience the thrill and excitement of longer more challenging rides not normally available through other motorcycle groups.
“We’re not about the machine. It’s the ride that counts”, Says Jerry Hotchkiss, organizer for the group. “We have a broad mix of all types of motorcycles, all experienced riders, which share the passion of riding the longer distances. We explore the scenic routes throughout the Southeast, typically starting early in the morning, returning late or occasionally staying overnight, following the back roads, small town streets, and even major highways, all with the intent to visit those places not often frequented by others”.
“Central Florida Long Riders love to experience the new and unusual”, says Hotchkiss, “We make it a point to stop for a meal at a restaurant with a local flare or visit a strange attraction somewhere along the route. These places, whether a hot-dog stand, BBQ joint, gourmet bistro, or local attraction, allow us to experience and enjoy, if only in a small way, the sights and sounds of the places we visit.”
Central Florida Long Riders is the group for experienced riders that enjoy riding farther than just around the neighborhood. They perform at least one local endurance ride per month, interspersed with shorter rides. They meet monthly at various locations to share and plan for their annual endurance rides that will challenge even the most experienced of motorcycle riders.
