Gears forecasts for 2011 & 2016

US demand for gears (including gear assemblies) is forecast to grow faster than three percent per year to over $29 billion in 2011, benefiting from increased motor vehicle production and rebounding aerospace demand.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release)Dec 05, 2007 – US demand for gears (including gear assemblies) is forecast to grow faster than three percent per year to over $29 billion in 2011, benefiting from increased motor vehicle production and rebounding aerospace demand. However, slowing growth in the machinery market will restrict the overall market for gears from attaining the growth it experienced between 2001 and 2006.
Aerospace market to post fastest gains
The fastest growing market will be the aerospace industry. Demand for gears in the aerospace industry fell between 2001 and 2004 due to decreased demand for aerospace equipment, however in 2005 the aerospace market began its rebound, with strong growth expected to continue through 2011.
Motor vehicles to remain dominant gear end use
The motor vehicle industry is by far the largest market for gears, accounting for over 80 percent of total gear demand in 2006. Motor vehicle demand for gears will reach approximately $24 billion in 2011, achieving annual gains of over three percent, due to increased production of motor vehicles in the US. However, faster growth will be restrained by decreased production of heavy trucks as the market adjusts to new EPA regulations. As a result of the motor vehicle market’s strength, demand for vehicular
gear assemblies will post above average gains through 2011. The industrial truck and tractor market will be a bright spot for gear demand in the slowing machinery market. While slowing relative to the 2001 to 2006 period, gear demand in industrial trucks and tractors will outperform all other types of machinery.
Spiral bevel gears projected to post gains in excess of 5% annually
Bevel gear products will post the fastest gains through 2011, with gains primarily  attributed to the rebounding aerospace market. The fastest growing individual product type through 2011 will be spiral bevel gears, projected to post annual gains in excess of five percent. Bevel gear speed reducers will outpace all other gear assembly types through 2011, with annual growth of nearly four percent.
