Causes on Facebook Now Accepts Donations to Canadian Charities

CanadaHelps working in partnership to facilitate donations to Canadian charities.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release)Nov 29, 2007 – CanadaHelps is working in partnership with Project Agape, the creators of the Causes Application on Facebook, to provide users the ability to support Canadian causes and charities.

The Causes Application on Facebook is a tool that allows users to leverage their social networks to raise awareness and funds for their causes/charities of choice.  Until today, users of this increasingly popular social networking site have only been able to donate to charities registered in the United States.

“The power of social networking and peer-to-peer marketing has a great influence on awareness building, giving and volunteering,” remarked Owen Charters, Executive Director of CanadaHelps.  “Facebook users are looking for opportunities to market their cause and for easy, efficient and secure ways to do so – CanadaHelps is a part of that solution.”

With over 40 million active users, it’s impressive that Toronto and London have the highest number of users on the site.  And though there are claims that London has topped Toronto in sheer numbers, it is likely that Toronto outstrips London on a per capita basis – an important piece of information when determining the potential of creating “buzz”.

Joe Green, Co-Founder of Project Agape, believes Canadians will once again prove their strength in numbers on Facebook.  “As peer-to-peer communications continue to prove their effectiveness, the potential of the Causes Application for charitable fundraising is evident.  We’ve literally had hundreds of Canadian charities asking for this option and are pleased to be able to offer the option in partnership with CanadaHelps.”

About CanadaHelps

CanadaHelps, a public charitable foundation, is Canada’s only donation portal that provides access to all of Canada’s 83,000 charities.  CanadaHelps facilitates over $20 million in donations to Canadian charities annually.

Initiated by three university students in 2000, CanadaHelps was created for the purpose of providing accessible and affordable online technology to both donors and charities, with the hope of ultimately increasing charitable giving in Canada.
