Seattle speculative fiction author Michael G. Munz has just released his debut novel, the sci-fi thriller A Shadow in the Flames.
Set in the fictional, decaying city of Northgate in the mid-21st century, A Shadow in the Flames is a self-contained novel beginning a larger series. It focuses on a young man named Michael Flynn who has come to the city with the dream of making a difference as part of a futuristic caste of knights. When arson destroys all that he owns, he finds the chance to realize that dream: Michael's mentor, his last remaining friend, enlists him to help stop the arsonist. But neither mentor nor arsonist is all they appear to be. He soon finds himself caught in webs of deception, and as a secret society struggles to unlock the secrets of a covert discovery on the lunar surface, they have their eyes on Michael as well.
A Shadow in the Flames was a quarter-finalist in the New Century Writer Awards novel contest.
Born in Pennsylvania, author Michael G. Munz has lived in Washington state since the age of three. He studied writing at the University of Washington. Munz has published numerous short stories including "Finding Victor," which won second place in WritersWeekly.com's 24-Hour Short Story Contest. Although A Shadow in the Flames is a sci-fi thriller, Munz’s short stories tend to fill the broader category of speculative fiction, containing elements of fantasy, sci-fi, mystery and horror, with the occasional mix of comedy.
Munz has traveled in England and Wales, and has an interest in Celtic and Greco-Roman mythology that often finds its way into his writing. He lives in Seattle where he is working on his next novel, a follow-up to A Shadow in the Flames tentatively titled Legacy of Memory.
