Famiglietti focused on the Constitution and liberty throughout his speech. Calling on Speaker Pelosi to support a resolution of Impeachment of both President Bush and Vice President Cheney, he stated that “It is better for the health of our nation and constitutional form of government to have a care-taker Presidency until the next election.” Criticizing the current administration for alleged kidnapping and torture of prisoners, Famiglietti said “We will not condone secret prisons. We will not condone torture of any human being.”
With regard to the erosion of constitutional freedoms, Famiglietti said “without freedom there can be no real security. Today, law abiding Americans are spied upon by our Government for no reason and without a warrant. There is no reason why we can not be secure and free, within the bounds of our Constitution.”

Famiglietti covered a number of other issues such as the need to reduce America’s dependence on oil and gas, and to make combating global warming a national priority, immigration, and the need for public financing of elections.
