A Festival of Testing at Novell, Bangalore

Novell announced the close of its two-day ‘TestFest’ at its Bangalore premises. More than 130 testing professionals at Novell Software Development (I) Pvt Ltd participated in the ‘Festival of Testing’.

Nov. 23, 2007 - PRLog -- The event was inaugurated by Mr. Naresh Shah, MD, Novell India Development Center.

Novell conducted this event in the year 2000 for the first time and since then it has been an important domain knowledge sharing platform across the test teams. Knowledge sharing and exchange of information on recent developments in the field of software testing coupled with fun and learning, are the focus of the event. An interesting aspect of the event is that it is an initiative taken and driven by the test teams at Novell.

Each ‘TestFest’ has a theme that connects all the events/activities at ‘TestFest’ such as research papers, crosswords, best practices, debate, quiz, project activities, extempore talks etc. Test design techniques, usability, performance testing, test optimization, test estimation, security testing, automation etc. are some of themes of previous testfests. On quite a few occasions the research papers and best practices presented in ‘TestFest’ made it to various International/National testing conferences.

This year's theme for the ‘TestFest’ was Test Automation and Test Optimization. With an aim to provide Novell professionals with industry insights, a guest speaker is invited in every ‘TestFest’. In the past, various individuals from the IT industry have shared their experiences ranging from Usability testing, to setting up a startup testing team etc.

This test fest had industry expert & veteran Mr. J Veeraghvan, who shared his experiences in a very thought provoking talk on “Towards Effecting Scrumming”. The guest talk was very much in line with the growing industry demand to adopt agile practices for software development.

‘Testfest’ aims at creating a platform for cross domain teams work and learn together as teams at Novell work on different products & technologies including SuSE Linux OS, eDirectory, system management software, identity and access management softwares etc.

For Novell's testing professionals who share end-to-end responsibilities for many award winning, world-class enterprise software products, ‘TestFest’ provides a valuable opportunity to learn, influence, excel, demonstrate and most importantly celebrate software testing and their profession.

According to Gartner, the worldwide market for testing services is forecasted to grow to $13 billion by 2010, and India in particular is going to be largely benefited by this growth. Software testing accounts for almost 50% of software development cost, and this number is even bigger for real time and mission critical enterprise softwares.
