The Holy and revered bridge dates back to the time of the Ramayan for Hindus and to the time of Adam and Eve for Muslims and Christians.
Corporate arguments put forward in support of the destruction of the Holy and revered bridge, i.e. shorter-ship-
This Holy and revered bridge is priceless. There are underwater cities not too deep under the water. Tools and artifacts from the huge wall stone structures date back to over 7,500 years ago, making it the earliest civilization known to man, thousands of years earlier than the Indus Valley civilisation. The area of shallow waters around the Holy and revered bridge need to be dried out and preserved as the Holy land it once was in ancient times as a place of Holy and revered pilgrimage.
As of 09/10/2007, 24.76% of the destruction by massive dredger machines has already been carried out as planned by the Sethusamudram Ship Channel Project, without any reference to the history or religious origins of the Holy and revered bridge, without proper consultation with Hindu, Muslim and Christian organisations and without regard to the sentiments of Hindus, Muslims and Christians all over the world, See http://www.sethusamudram.gov.in/
Despite its roots with all major religions, and its heritage, the Holy and revered bridge does not even feature amongst UNESCO’s World Heritage Centre’s list for the lawful preservation of listed monuments.
Due to an Indian court decision, work on the Holy and revered bridge has halted for a few months. Protests are being organized by many Hindu organizations to ensure this destruction does not resume. What is needed is a global effort on a massive scale.
