Health and safety matters are of paramount importance to ‘A Plant’, who has gone beyond the call of duty, providing the required fitment of safety cameras to its cone layers and all vehicles over 7.5 tonnes including tractors and trailers.
‘A Plant’, one of the world’s largest providers of non-operated equipment rental, has fitted its entire new British fleet of cone layers with Brigade’s CCTV solutions, including the BE-850 5.0” TFT LCD monitor and BE-800C low light reversing camera, to heavy duty trucks and the BE-835 3.5” CCTV systems to its vans. A-Plant, who has a fleet of over 1,600 road maintenance vehicles and deals with some of the UK’s most high profile construction companies, believes the added safety features of Brigade’s CCTV systems will prevent accidents and save lives, money and downtime from costly repair work.
Shaun Winstanley, Director of Transport Services at ‘A-Plant’ said: “The safety of operators is of paramount importance, plus the cost of a camera system pales into insignificance when compared to the total running cost of the vehicle over its lifetime. We chose Brigade systems, fitted and supported by Leyland Auto Electrical and Diesel Ltd at Preston due to their professionalism and the reliability of the product.”
Leyland Auto Electrical and Diesel Ltd, established over 30 years ago, operates national coverage from its Preston depot with a team of 60 staff including 12 qualified auto electricians The extensive vehicle care centre manages 24 hour support, exceeding customer expectations.
The move, to equip the cone laying fleet, in conjunction with the Highways Agency, allows maintenance vehicle drivers to see road users who may be approaching the impact zone. Although impact zone barriers are designed to absorb shock from collisions, many drivers swerve to avoid the equipment, causing greater damage. By using the camera safety systems, the driver is forewarned of an imminent collision and can take evasive action.
The camera systems on cone layers were so effective in increasing the safety of employers and other road users, preventing accidents that ‘A Plant’ decided to adopt the safety cameras on other vehicles in its fleet.
The cameras are used to aid safe reversing, allowing the driver to see objects, or other vehicles obscured by the rear of the truck, thus reducing the possibility of work related fatalities. Brigade Electronics, the market leader in vehicle safety systems, provide a wide range of vehicle CCTV systems and alarms for the commercial vehicle market.
