MYS Launches Global Directory of Web Sites that List Online Volunteer Opportunities

Macdonald Youth Services (MYS) launched "The Global Directory of Web Sites that List Online Volunteer Opportunities", today. This unique global directory, which is organized by country, will allow any non-profit organization to easily find Web sites to list their Internet-based volunteer opportunities. All Web sites listed in the directory provide the name of the Web site, the site's URL, who is eligible to list online volunteers, the geographic area the Web site serves and if any costs are involved to list.

"This global directory has been designed to remain current and comprehensive as new listings or modifications to current listings can be conveniently submitted via a linked form", stated MYS's pioneering online volunteer program developer, Randy Tyler, who (along with online volunteers) created the global directory as part of the multimedia "how to" publication about online volunteering he is currently developing. "And the directory's RSS feed, which has an e-mail-based subscription option, will enable any user to easily stay abreast of any changes to the directory", added Tyler.

MYS's global directory uses an easy to install and configure Perl-based application called "Listings Manager", which was programmed and donated by Interactive Tools of Vancouver, Canada.

MYS extends their thanks to the following online volunteers who have assisted in the development of this global directory: Kristin Wilson (Ontario), initial research, resource verification and directory compilation; Augustus Lo (North Point, Hong Kong), html coding; Tu Loan St-Cyr (Ontario, Canada), follow-up research, input verification and code validation; and Chuck Brown (Ohio, US), global directory audio PSA.
