A recent report has revealed the latest broadband subscription figures from a number of providers amidst reports that broadband figures across the UK and Europe have been falling over the third quarter in comparison to the second quarter, as well as for the second quarter in comparison to the first quarter of the year. Results of new broadband subscriptions up to the end of September have been revealed by a number of major broadband providers, including Virgin Media and BT.
Virgin Media has lost a lot of consumers over the course of this year since it took over from Telewest/NTL. Many customers left after Virgin cancelled a number of popular Sky channels following a public feud with the media giant over the cost of having these channels. Other customers left because of lack of customer service from Virgin Media, which many consumers have been angry about.
BT has continued to enjoy success with its broadband service, enjoying increased customer through recent acquisitions as well as possibly through Virgin's loss of customers since earlier this year. Recently Sky announced that in just fourteen months it had managed to break through the one million customer barrier, making it one of the fastest growing broadband providers in such a short space of time.
According to the recent figures, Virgin Media has seen a growth of over one hundred and fifteen thousand new cable customers, which is a rise of nearly forty sic thousand compared to the previous quarter. The figures also show that BT has seen around one hundred and seventy eight thousand new broadband subscribers for the quarter ending in September, which means that the communications giant now enjoys a customer base of over four million customers.
