Nov. 19, 2007 - PRLog -- Brianna Young, a Tulsa based college student, mom, and business owner wants to reach out to women who need help starting a business, starting college, or finding a career they enjoy.
In October, Young formed the National Council for Women’s Business and Education (NCWBE) to be the foundation for her plans. The NCWBE provides reviews on companies, schools, and business opportunities, including exposing scams. In addition, the Council will offer business mentoring, workshops, and seminars on various topics, including business start-ups and the college application and financial aid processes.
“Applying for college can be scary if you don’t understand how it all works. I want to break it down so it’s less intimidating and easier to understand,” Young says of her plans.
Young is a business owner of three years and is currently pursuing a degree in graphic design. She currently owns three businesses while maintaining her 3.6 GPA and is also raising a little girl. Young recently sold one of her businesses for six times its purchase price.
“I struggled through the business start-up process and spent hundreds of hours researching and talking to other business owners. There were so many people willing to give advice, and now I’d like to give back,” Young describes her three businesses as the “guinea pigs” for the NCWBE.
Young plans to offer scholarships through the NCWBE for the fall of 2008. The scholarship applicants must complete an interviewing process, as well as demonstrate passion for their field of interest. The NCWBE Board will handpick the scholarship winners.
Young encourages families to talk to their daughters about education at a young age, familiarizing them with the steps involved in applying for financial aid and scholarships. Young also encourages parents to contact NCWBE.org if they need help explaining the importance of education and the college application process.
The NCWBE’s website can be found at www.ncwbe.org. The site offers reviews, podcasts, interviews, and information on how to support women’s business and education.
