GS1 Canada, Canada’s expert in collaborative commerce and global standards, is proud to continue the relationship forged with the Ontario Ministry of Economic Development and Trade (MEDT) that continues to enhance the competitiveness of Canadian small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). GS1 Canada, in collaboration with the MEDT will continue to help create economic advantages for Ontario businesses, contributing to their ability to compete nationally and in the global marketplace.
Ontario is the economic engine for Canada with nearly 40% of Canadian SMEs located within its boundaries. Such businesses employ more than half of all Ontarians. Therefore, in order to facilitate their longevity and competitiveness, the MEDT has committed to ensuring that SMEs in Ontario continue to benefit from electronic commerce and trade. Increased expertise, capabilities, and productivity will be contributing factors to Ontarion SMEs being competitive in the global marketplace.
“Without the support of the MEDT,” said N. Arthur Smith, CEO, GS1 Canada, “we would not be able to offer Ontario SMEs the support and expertise necessary to increase their opportunities in emerging information and communications technologies (ICT).”
In partnership with key associations such as the Canadian Federation of Independent Businesses (CFIB) and the Retail Council of Canada (RCC), GS1 Canada will enable SMEs in different sectors to participate more fully in markets that are being transformed by electronic commerce. The support of the MEDT in such initiatives reinforces the Ontario government’s commitment to helping SMEs become more viable and competitive. This will contribute to the economy provincially, as well as nationally, and increase exposure to Canada’s good standing in the global marketplace.
