The offer was mainly aimed at intercontinental travellers visiting Athens and other European capitals, during the off-peak winter period, and was designed as a relaxing weekend away from the bustle of capital cities, and to enable them to experience a little of the largest Greek island at an economical price and without the summer crowds.
The offer, originally available up until December 2007 and selected dates in January and February 2008, has now been extended to include any dates between now and 31st March 2008. Details of the offer can be found on the Villa Ralfa website at www.villaralfa.com.
‘The offer was only available until December and selected dates in January and February 2008,’ says Tim, the owner of Villa Ralfa since its’ opening in summer 2004, ‘However we decided that this might be a little limiting for many people as the cheapest flights need to be booked in advance. This extension will also give travellers from Northern Europe the chance to take advantage of the offer as an early spring break.’
It is worth noting that this offer now includes Easter Weekend 2008, Friday 21st March until Monday 24th March, a time when northern Europeans traditionally try to take a short holiday. Unusually Easter 2008 school holidays are not scheduled until the April 5th in the UK.
Under the terms of the offer accommodation must be for three nights including Friday and Sunday, additional nights may be purchased subject to availability.
‘Apart from the obvious sightseeing such as Knossos, the museums in Heraklion, and general touring of the island,’ said Tim, ‘there is sufficient nightlife to keep the gay traveller occupied as Eros Bar in Malia is open at this time and there are restaurants open to serve the resident population. There is also Carnival Weekend in February, which usually involves fancy dress of any description!’
The Villa Ralfa website will also shortly show a list of restaurants and gay friendly bars around Hersonissos, which are open during the winter months. As most souvenir shops are closed during this period, arrangements have been made with Kouroupis Art in Koutouloufari, a nearby village, for those wishing to purchase Cretan made ceramics and art items.
The website also has a comprehensive links page with a number of useful travel sites listed.
For travellers considering staying in Athens who have not yet booked accommodation Tim can suggest suitable hotels at a reasonable price.
