Bright & Sons Announce 150th Year Anniversary Celebration

Nov. 16, 2007 - PRLog -- Scarborough jewellers Bright & Sons, part of the HL Brown Group, will celebrate 150 years of serving its customers with a special commemorative exhibition. The store is in the process of organising a customer event in November, at 27 & 28 Nicholas Street, Scarborough. On display will be guest collections of antique and modern jewellery. Customers of Bright & Sons will be invited to the event. Customers who have not received their invitations should pop in to Bright & Sons by Tuesday 20 November for further details.

Opened in 1857, the landmark jewellery store in Scarborough was founded by the Bright brothers Frederick, also a local magistrate, and Herbert, an acknowledged dog expert, who both moved from Sheffield.  In its early history the store won several awards for its creations, including the Prize Medal for Jewellery at the York Exhibition in 1866, and certificates in the Fine Art and Industrial Divisions at the London Exhibition in 1872. Many eminent members of the local community have also been its customers.

Brights was purchased by Sheffield family business H.L. Brown in 1953. The character of the shop has however remained largely intact.  In addition to the exquisite modern designs in diamond jewellery, Brights is also famous for its period pieces.

Brights manager Heather Cramer, a Scarborian by birth, said: “We are delighted to mark this significant milestone for Brights with an exhibition of modern and antique jewellery. We are looking forward to seeing many of our customers past and present as we celebrate this historic occasion for the company.”

Heather Cramer has been in the jewellery trade for almost 40 years, the last decade of which she has spent with Brights in Scarborough.
