Erik Bettermann, Director-General of Deutsche Welle, will be opening a Digital Media Campus at the German University in Cairo on November 20. This new broadcast station, which was developed by Deutsche Welle and the Fraunhofer-Institut, will give students the opportunity to gain valuable skills and experience.
The Digital Media Campus has been developed with the technology required to broadcast using Digital Radio Mondiale (DRM) and Digital Video Broadcasting-
Before the official opening, Bettermann will give a short presentation on cooperating with educational institutions in foreign countries and how this supports Deutsche Welle’s goals for the future.
The core Campus Radio team at the German University in Cairo has already completed an intensive course at DW-AKADEMIE, under the direction of Helmut Osang. They covered everything from program planning to choice of topics and music, as well as research to accompany broadcasting.
On November 19, Deutsche Welle is also opening an audio/visual lounge at Cairo University to give students a way to relax while staying up to date. To close out the week, there will be a concert at the Cairo Opera House on November 21 as part of the Orchestra Campus project that was developed in 2001 by Deutsche Welle and Beethovenfest Bonn.
