Report Background
Automotive lighting was a relatively stable technology for many years. Now the sector is being driven by safety and energy efficiency issues.
A wealth of new developments currently in the early or middle stages of implementation is set to transform the automotive lighting sector over the next few years. The change will come after a period of relative stability that saw the introduction of only occasional new technologies, such as halogen bulbs, complex reflectors and high-intensity discharge lamps.
However, recent years have seen the development of Advanced Front-lighting Systems (AFS), Curve Adaptive Lighting (CAL), intelligent lighting systems and the increasing use of light-emitting diodes (LED). While driven by safety and efficiency requirements, these new technologies provide opportunities for increased design freedom.
