Americana music is not as developed in the UK as it is in the States. Many people enquire about booking Ade for a traditional country bash, where line dancing cowboy boots, gun holsters, skirts with tassels and a Hill Billy band is booked to get the gig bouncing.
Whilst many of Ade's tracks will have you tapping your feet and singing along, his music is not suitable for such a gig unless you need a break from the traditional and want to hear music that is thought provoking, melodic and will often tug at your heartstrings. Ade Payne is truly Americana (roots music, alternative country) and is the UK's answer to Keith Urban.
According to Wikipedia: - American folk music, also known as Americana, is a broad category of music including Bluegrass, country music, gospel, old time music, jug bands, Appalachian folk, blues, Cajun and Native American music.
The music is considered "Americana" because it is either native to the United States or there varied enough from its origins that it struck musicologists as something distinctly new; it is considered "roots music" because it served as the basis of music later developed in the United States, including rock and roll, rhythm and blues, and jazz.
Notable roots musicians include John Denver, Woody Guthrie, Son House, Blind Lemon Jefferson, Leadbelly, Hazel Dickens, Maggie Simpson, Mahalia Jackson, Peter, Paul and Mary, Washington Phillips, Fiddlin' John Carson (1868 - 1949), and Jean Ritchie.
More recent musicians who occasionally or consistently play roots music include Keb' Mo', Ralph Stanley, Pete Seeger, Keith Urban, and Ricky Skaggs.
