An unusual pocket barometer made more than a hundred years ago will be on sale in Birmingham this week.
The metal cased barometer is a highlight of a specialist clock and antique barometers auction in Birmingham, UK.
The sale is being put on by 131 year old auctioneer Fellows & Sons on Tuesday 13th November 2007: http://www.fellows.co.uk.
Managing partner Stephen Whittaker said: “This is the only pocket barometer in the sale and we think it will sell for up to £100.”
The barometer is lot 26 in the 118 item sale, and was made by James Lucking & Co in about 1900.
The circular silvered device is calibrated in inches and inscribed with the full name of its makers: ‘James Lucking & Co Ltd Opticians Birmingham Leicester and Worcester’.
It has a rotating altimeter scale calibrated to 8,000 feet.
The barometer includes its original red leather outer case.
This device and the antique clocks in the sale will be available for anyone to buy anywhere in the world.
This is because Fellows & Sons broadcasts a live audio feed of every sale and encourages internet bids at the website.
