The House of Infiniti Pittsburgh is pleased to announce “Project D.E.E.P” World AIDS Day Community Awareness House Ball on Friday, December 1, 2007, at the YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh Hazelwood site, 4713 Chatsworth Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15207. Now in its 2nd year, the House of Infiniti Pittsburgh has been commitment to the health, wellness, education, and the advancement of at-risk African American and Latino GBLT youth in the city of Pittsburgh.
A House is a community-based collective of African American and Latino GBLT youth who actively participate in Balls, Pageants, and other positive social GBLT community-based events. House Balls are events in which community members come as both spectators and participants, to respectfully compete for cash prizes, scholarships and trophies in a variety of fun, energetic, and competitive categories. Categories for Project D.E.E.P. will vary in several ways including runway, fashion, and vogueing, focusing on drug/alcohol intervention, education, employment and HIV/AIDS awareness. Examples of well-known houses include the House of Xtravaganza, the House of Ninja, the House of Labeija, and the House of Latex from the 1990 groundbreaking documentary “Paris is Burning”.
This year’s event will include an HIV/AIDS Health Fair, free onsite confidential and anonymous HIV testing, free safe sex materials, and a competition of nearly 30 ballroom categories. Grand prizes totaling $1,250 will be given out to the winners of selected categories.
