PRLog (Press Release) - Nov 09, 2007 -
Billed as the night to come together to experience and enjoy the diversity of Aboriginal Artisan and Arts, The Alberta Native Friendship Centres Association's  'The Gathering' is recognized as a true cultural expression of Indigenous Arts.
Acclaimed performers and musicians such as Wayne Lavallee, Asani, Jared Sowan,
Kateri Akiwenzie-Damm, The Métis Child Little Jiggers and Kinnie Starr will grace the stage in this night of celebration. Attendees will delight in the vibrancy of Alberta’s Indigenous fine artists and will be witness the official launch of Alberta's Provincial “Artists in Action” resource database.
"This will be a night of celebration and honour for Alberta's richly diverse Aboriginal community and a night of welcoming and sharing of culture for the non-Aboriginal community." commented the ANFCA's Executive Director, Joanne McDougall-Mason. "We are honoured to host this evening and welcome the opportunity to share the unique and diverse Aboriginal cultures served throughout the twenty Friendship Centre located across Alberta." Inuit, Métis, and First Nations Elders and performers will join together to offer an evening of cultural expression and enlightenment.
The official launch of the ANFCA's province-wide 'Artists in Action' database which will showcase Alberta's Aboriginal traditional and contemporary Artisans will take place during the evening's events. "We are delighted to offer this resource to our artisan and the larger community as a whole." notes McDougall-Mason, "We know that many people across Canada and in fact internationally want to access Aboriginal artisan, however, unless you are a part of the community, finding many of these Artists can be very challenging." The Artists in Action database will be freely offered online and will support and encourage access to established and emerging Aboriginal Artisan.
