Nov. 8, 2007 - PRLog -- On today's edition of LibVibe: the library newscast, host Marv Kaminsky features interview comments from an associate professor and librarian at a major research university who says blogging can be scholarly, peer-reviewed communication and should count for tenure just like traditional print publications do. The process is much faster and more interactive than publishing on paper. Also, the systems manager and organizer of a promotion at a public library system in South Carolina tells listeners why they’re running the contest that offers patrons who try out new self-checkout stations a chance to win prizes, including a new laptop. Will the new machines mean the loss of jobs? Do promotions and the lure of prizes offer ways to make more people aware of libraries and help the profession fight misconceptions and those who marginalize us?

The eight-minute program also includes comments from the mayor and public library director in Louisville, Kentucky, where a proposal for a tax increase to fund libraries was defeated at the polls on November 6th by a huge margin. Also, the story of a serious incident of vandalism at a public library in Michigan.

No other library news source does what LibVibe does, not even the major library profession magazines, with their large staffs and offices. We suspect that they don’t even know how.

LibVibe is a fun, unique way for the library community stay informed and hear the voices of people in the news, concisely, immediately and portably, without the month-long deadlines of print. LibVibe also also offers advertisers the opportunity to reach this valuable audience with spoken, up-front messages that cut through the clutter of print and are available at a fraction of the costs of the glossy magazines.
