I was a bit of an awkward kid. I did things like go to school in bright orange jogging pants. And I had a bowl haircut up until middle school. So it came as no surprise to my mother, when I started writing software in the 5th grade using a book I ordered through the mail called "Basic". It was a deceiving name for something resembling an unabridged dictionary. This may not seem terribly unusual today, but keep in mind however that this was in 1989, 4 years before the first commercial web browser came out.
