Cleveland Author Ann Brown Releases Highly Anticipated Children’s Series Farm Grandma

Cleveland, OH – November 1, 2007 – It’s destined to be a classic children’s book series that brings children together with their beloved grandparents. After all, what more could a parent or grandparent want for their youngster than to enjoy a story brimming with memorable characters, great adventures and happy readers? Author Ann Brown hopes to spur a national movement to celebrate grandparents and offer an opportunity at quality time through her new “Farm Grandma” series that celebrates the love and learning shared between grands.

Books are available at www.farmgrandma.com.

Brown plans to accomplish this goal with her Farm Grandma series of books aimed at primary grade girls. Brown used her own memories of great times spent as a little girl on her grandparents' farm in rural Ohio to help create the concept for the quick read, 28 page and beautifully illustrated book. The series brings a slice of seemingly forgotten but all important Americana to young girls who might not otherwise ever know about life on the farm such as planting vegetables, riding a tractor, gathering apples, getting thousands of pumpkins ready for Halloween shoppers, and selling produce to the community from a roadside stand. In the process, she showcases the bond that is shared between grandchildren and their grandparents and the all important life lessons of laughing together, sharing the day, and creating lasting memories.

Farm Grandma and the Dancing Pitchfork, the first book in the series, picks up on all of these special nuances shared between grandchild and grandparent, such as the “Basket Ballet” shared by Farm Grandma and little Ann Therese at the end of the story. Carolyn Victor, a first grade teacher, says: "The book is an endearing story about the special bond between young girls and their grandmothers. This story would be a great addition to our classroom library and could be used with my first graders during our Grandparent's Day activities." And Michael Ernest Sweet of Concordia University added: "Cracking the world of writing for children is a difficult task; this book is wonderfully illustrated with unique pictures which exude a playfulness anyone would be pleased to find associated with 'grandma'."

Brown says she would like nothing better than to help spur a campaign to "Celebrate Grandma" every day, not just on Grandparents Day. According to top researches and published in Health A to Z, children who are close to their grandparents do better in school and have enhanced family relationships. Grandparents also tend to remain healthier and happier as they age when they share a close bond with their grandchildren.

"I think we have so much to learn and appreciate about our own grandparents," Brown said. "And by the time we realize that, many of us don't have them around anymore. The lives of our grandparents are worth sharing and this book and this series enables both to spend some quality time together – reading, learning, and enriching one another’s lives."

Brown hopes the books will help children appreciate their own grandparents every day and encourage them to do the little things more often, such as talking, sharing, and laughing. These little gestures will help enhance the strong bond that they share, the author says. The "Farm Grandma" in this new book series is based on Ann's very own grandmother, whom she really did call her Farm Grandma. What began as a short storybook for a birthday present to her Farm Grandma a little over two years ago, evolved into this heartwarming book series of a little girl and her grandmother.

The second book in the series, Farm Grandma and the Blueberry Buckle, will release in April, 2008. Brown is already at work on a Farm Grandpa series for boys. The books are available from FarmGrandma.com and through numerous on-line outlets including BarnesandNoble.com and Amazon.com.
