Post Office sells broadband for cash

Post Office broadband is allowing customers to pay cash for their internet service

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release)Nov 02, 2007 – Broadband Comparison site Broadband Genie comments on Post Office Broadbands new service allowing customers to pay cash for their broadband connection.
http://www.broadbandgenie.co.uk/broadband/Post+Office+broadband

Post Office subscribers will be able to pay for the service at any one of the 14,000 local Post Offices in the UK, and the internet service seems specifically targeted at the over 50s or those slow to adopt internet technology.

The Post Office feels that until now, the older generation had perceived the internet as an expensive luxury, or as too complicated. By allowing cash payments the Post Office has also made the internet service more attractive to low-income users, who might previously have been discouraged by having to make card transactions.

Broadband Genie MD Ciaron Dunne says:

"The Post Office is in the envious position of having customers actually
looking forward to its launch - the popular national institution is
launching as an ISP with levels of goodwill which are frankly unheard of
in the much-criticised broadband marketplace. At Broadband Genie, for
example, we've had broadband customers asking about Post Office
broadband for at least two years now, so it's nice to finally have a
positive answer for people.

"The Post Office shouldn't be too optimistic, though: broadband
customers tend to be a rather unhappy lot. The big danger for the Post
Office is that they'll soon have long queues of grumpy broadband
customers complaining about slower-than-promised speeds and unreliable
connections. Unless, that is, they simply close all their branches down
first. They should consider themselves duly warned"
