PRLog (Press Release) - Nov 02, 2007 -
Two barometers made by the optician to George III two hundred years are coming up for sale at an auction in Birmingham, UK.

They were both made by Peter Dolland. He is recorded as working between 1730 and 1820 in London.

The antique barometers could sell for up to £1,200 at the clocks and barometers auction.

The one off sale is happening at Fellows & Sons on Tuesday 13th November 2007: http://www.fellows.co.uk.

Peter Dolland was known as the optician to George III and the Duke of York.

Lots 4 and 6 are among the 118 barometers and antique clocks for sale on the day.

Managing partner Stephen Whittaker said: “Barometers are highly collectable, and these are fine examples of some made in the late eighteenth, early nineteenth century.”

Lot 4 is a mahogany mercury filled cistern tube stick barometer, signed Dolland London.

It is valued at between £800 and £1,200.

Lot 6 has a similar top valuation. It is also a mahogany mercury filled cistern tube stick barometer, but with a broken swan neck pediment and central brass urn finial.

The trunk contains a silvered Fahrenheit scale alcohol thermometer.

The barometers are both older than Fellows & Sons, despite the firm boasting a 131 year history.

Its sales are in modern auction rooms in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter and can also be monitored over the internet.

There is a live audio feed of each sale on the Fellows website. It accepts internet bids from across the globe.
