Over 90% of world's trade is transported via ships. There are over 4,66,000 merchant navy officers across the world, that man these ships. There are around 50,000 merchant ships trading internationally, transporting every kind of cargo. The world fleet is registered in over 150 nations i.e. almost everywhere. It was indeed a need to get such a vast diversity of merchant navy officer's to be connected under a single platform. SeaFolks.com is a platform for seafarers across the world, to network, share their knowledge & experiences. Most importantly stay in touch with the people ashore who matters most to them better than ever before. One of the main focuses of SeaFolks.com is to help mariners have a better life on board ships. SeaFolks will be a bridge between seafarers and the people ashore who matters the most to them, by providing new perspectives for one another, basically to seek emotional support.
Merchant navy profession is a very challenging & special profession. In just a few days of research time it has already taken attention of hundreds of world-class seafarers across 10 countries like Brazil, Sweden, Iran, India, etc. Now seafarers across the world have a reason to smile. A 2007 report on seafarers' welfare around the world says, welfare facilities for seafarers as they have been provided up until now are no longer meeting present day needs. It says that this calls for a radical rethink about the way such services are structured. SeaFolks.com will be an answer to all those issues soon. It wishes to be the voice of every merchant navy officer. There was a meeting conducted in Institute of Marine Engineers on 25/10/2007 about the increased stress for seafarers on ships. Mr Umesh Dhekane, CEO of SeaFolks.com was the speaker for the meeting. SeaFolks.com is a new ray of light for every merchant navy officer now!
