Fundraiser for Pennsylvania woman on 16,000 mile bicycle journey to lose almost 300 pounds and gain a life
Camp Hill, Pennsylvania, Monday October 15, 2007 — Local business helps keep fitness dreams on track for Pennsylvania woman who is on a journey to battle obesity
Nothing is going to stop Priscilla Houliston from finishing her trek to raise awareness of the importance of exercise in her life. Not even a degenerative disorder in her overworked knees, which have pushed her peddles up and down for 3,013 miles, covering the entire east coast of America. After all, she still has another 100 pounds to lose and millions of people to share her message of movement & moderation with.
An injury in September 2007 in Portland, Oregon had Priscilla and husband Morton, return home to Pennsylvania to regroup and recover, putting the temporary brakes on this health quest. Facing the news of her MRI which revealed that her knees wouldn't be up for the remainding 13,000 miles of this two-year trip powered by bicycles and walking only, supporters of the couple rallied to help.
Beth Shover, owner of Massage Therapy Associates in Camp Hill, Pennsylvania has stepped in to lend a hand at the couples dream to raise funds to purchase a bicycle that Priscilla can power by both legs and hands. Beth is hosting a Holiday Gift Fair, with procedes going to help the couple get back on the road to fitness, on October 27, 2007 at the Massage Therapy Associates location near Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. The fundraiser is an attempt to get the wheels of fitness turning again for this couple who will travel for another eighteen months to finish their circle around the coastlines and borders of America.
With the high cost of the required bicycle, just over $3,000 dollars and the months of waiting for her knee to heal, the couple are also visiting various locations in Pennsylvania and several other states, speaking to groups about their amazing journey of inspiration. Priscilla holds firm to the notion that there is no one out there that is too fat to get fit. For decades this is just how Houliston described her own health condition.
Tipping the scales at 420 pounds, Priscilla was on a downward spiral and decided to take control of her health. She had blamed everything except herself for her weight and finally decided that it was time to matters in to her own hands. Her journey, shared with only her husband, has not only been the answer to a lifetime of obesity, but has also spurred thousands of people on the road to making "little" changes in their lives.
Losing over 170 pounds since May 2006, Priscilla wants to share her message of, "wake up and smell the fitness" with the world. With people like Beth Shover helping, it should be another example that anything really is possible if you are willing to follow through with following your dreams.
