Nepomuceno was quoted as saying, “there just aren’t enough people to fill positions when the youngest baby boomers retire. You need to build that midlevel bench now, so in seven to eight years you have the right people in the right places.”
Other pertinent tips Nepomuceno added to the article included:
· Close your wallet. Money isn’t what lures employees away from their employer. Nepomuceno claimed that challenge, recognition and location are the cause. “A lot of times people will make a move to get back to where their roots are,” he said. “But everybody wants to be recognized for what they do, and they want opportunities to advance.”
· Question star quality. That industry whiz you’re about to hire might be extremely talented, but completely wrong for your company.
· “Personality counts,” Nepomuceno says. “You can always build up someone’s skill set,” he said. “But you have to ask if this person is really the right match for your organization.”
