AstraZeneca signs clinical study deal with Japanese university

AstraZeneca’s Osaka-based Japanese subsidiary has reached a master clinical study agreement with Keio University School of Medicine (Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo).

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release) - Oct 11, 2007 -
AstraZeneca’s Osaka-based Japanese subsidiary has reached a master clinical study agreement with Keio University School of Medicine (Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo).  Separate contracts on future clinical trials involving the two parties will be concluded separately under the master agreement.

The agreement has been signed against a background of the recent severe environment for clinical trials in Japan, Astra Zeneca says.  It believes the deal will help it to reduce the ‘drug lag’ - the delay in new drugs being launched – in Japan, compared with the US and Europe.

Keio University School of Medicine is attempting to increase clinical trials and clinical research, and will have discussions with AstraZeneca as part of this effort under the deal.  The University will also support early conduct of clinical trials of candidate compounds in the company’s pipeline.
