Atlanta, GA: African American women all over the country are returning to their roots… literally! Women, regardless of cultural background, are kissing chemicals goodbye and re-inventing the trend of natural hair. Recently, the resurgence and rising popularity of curly and kinky tresses have begun to take the world by storm. Natural hair, though once looked down upon and considered “too ethnic”, has now become widely accepted in many professional and personal environments;
On November 3, 2007, Atlanta will join the natural movement by hosting its first annual Natural Hair Affair at the Crown Plaza Hotel (6345 Powers Ferry Road) in Marietta, GA. This event is dedicated to providing the necessary education that women need in order to let go of chemically straightened hair. Also, it will provide transitional motivation and confidence for styling hair in its natural state.
”This is an excellent opportunity for women who have gone natural to network with other naturalists and stylists,” states Aarika Knox, conference facilitator and editor of The PeachPost newsletter. “It will also encourage those thinking about going natural by giving them the advice, techniques and care strategies to make an easy transition.”
The Natural Hair Affair will bring together specialized stylists and local vendors who will conduct instructive sessions on natural hair care and maintenance, wearing natural hair in the workplace, how to transition from relaxers to natural hair, and the great benefits of being natural. Vendors will also offer hair care products, cosmetology services, fashion, jewelry and massage therapy. Attendees will also receive goodie bags with product samples and materials, as well as an opportunity to win great door prizes.
