FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release)Oct 09, 2007 – Inttranews partners with IATIS to provide low-cost access to information for student linguists

Rouen, France and Manchester, UK (Inttranews): Inttranews has announced a partners hip agreement with the International Association for Translation and Intercultural Studies (IATIS) to provide low-cost access to information for student interpreters and translators in universities that are members of IATIS.

In an age of information overload, finding, sifting and sorting information that is relevant and useful is strategically vital in any business sector. Inttranews, the leading news site for the global language industry, uses state-of-the-art search technology, language-specific semantic search criteria, and sorting by human editors to provide daily news reports of unique quality and value for linguists.

To make that information available to student interpreters and translators in general, and to those in developing countries in particular, in partnership with the IATIS network of some 50 universities worldwide, Inttranews is now available to student interpreters and translators in IATIS member faculties for a single annual fee of one Euro. 100% of the revenue will be dedicated to providing the news service in languages other than the English, French and Spanish versions currently available.

IATIS subscribers not only have access to the full range of Inttranews services with an average of 24 bulletins issued each working day, but can also use the 24,000 reports available in its archives for research purposes, and access business information including calls for tender (worth more than €350 million in 2006), and a multilingual, multinational selection of more than 300 job offers each day.

The low-cost service also makes group subscriptions to Inttranews for university departments simple and easy to manage, requiring only one group manager, using a secure, multicurrency on-line payment system.

For Malcolm Duff, Chief Editor of Inttranews: "Languages and linguists are increasingly being recognised as vital factors for economic and social progress. We are particularly pleased with this partnership because with IATIS we can obtain feedback from future interpreters and translators worldwide about what they want to know, and focus on finding that information for them."

According to Professor Mona Baker, Vice-President of IATIS, “this partnership with Inttranews will bring more benefits to our members, by allowing them easy access to up-to-the-minute news of what is happening to and around translators and interpreters. In addition to keeping us informed of important developments, these pieces of news may themselves constitute important sources of data for our research”.

About IATIS
The International Association for Translation and Intercultural Studies (IATIS) is a non-profit making organization which provides an intellectual forum for debating issues relating to translation and other forms of cross-cultural communication as they continue to develop in the 21st century. IATIS aims to bring together scholars representing the widest range of traditions and perspectives and to facilitate cooperation among the global community of researchers in translation and other related disciplines.
