The administrators at the “You the People” blog felt that there was a niche yet to be filled in the blogosphere. Many blogs are one man shows and though they might have a readership, the readership’s opinions and views are second fiddle to the main author. They don’t usually allow people with rival opinions the right to post their own content. This is where the “You the People” blog is different. There is no second fiddle. Everyone gets to post.
One of the administrators goes by the name HeadHoncho. He elaborates, “Blogger.com and Technorati are great ways for people to promote their own voice but that is different then allowing others to respond just as loudly. At our blog, anyone who signs up is instantly a contributor. They can post their own content in response to other posters on the blog or elsewhere in the blogging community.”
The site does lay down some basic parameters. Pure spam is not tolerated, but as long as someone posts something intelligent, they are permitted to link back to their own blog. HeadHoncho elaborates, “We don’t want a site filled with porn spammers, that’s for sure. We are letting people post their content, and in a way, that helps our site. It is only fair that we let them post links to their own blogs, too. Absolutely, content providers still own their own content.”
The site has only been live for a couple of weeks and already some of its feeder domains have broken within the top million in traffic in the world. As the Presidential campaign heats up, the expectation is that traffic will increase.
It is explained, “We’re a political blog drawing on political themes and this is a campaign year. That can only mean that our site will become increasingly a better place to post content and promote your own blog.”
There is no fee for signing up and the ability to post is immediately granted using the Wordpress blogging software. A stats program is available to all contributors so that they can see for themselves how much traffic the site is generating. Interested bloggers should go to http://asylumcommunications.com to enter the debate and post their content. The site can also be accessed through http://www.communitycontent.net
