'Word Stylist' and Natural Hair Stylists from A Nappy Hair Affair Featured at Philly Lock Conference

Hairline: Philadelphia, Oct. 2007--Linda "Mosetta" Jones and two prominent members of her hair and self-appreciation collective, A Nappy Hair Affair, will be featured speakers and workshop presenters at the 13th Annual International Lock Conference: Natural Hair, Health and Beauty Expo, in Philadelphia next weekend .

The two-day conference will be held Saturday and Sunday, Oct.6 and 7 at the Walker D. Palmer Leadership Learning Partnership Charter School.

Mosetta, author of "Nappyisms:  Affirmations for Nappy-Headed People and Wannabes!" and "Naturally Speaking" columnist for Naturallycurly. com, will give her presentation: "A Roots Revival,  Over-combing the Bad Hair Myth" during the conference.

Mosetta, who appeared on CNN's "Paula Zahn Now" in April to discuss the controversy surrounding the Don Imus 'nappy comments' will also participate in the conference panel discussion entitled: "Protect Your Hairitage."

Marci Walker, owner of Madam Walker's Hair Braidery and School in Temple Hills, Md, will conduct a hair styling workshop and will also participate on the conference panel.  Marci, a veteran natural hair stylist, is also the hair advice columnist for Nappy News, the membership newsletter of A Nappy Hair Affair. www.nappyhairaffair .com

Sonya "Sistah Nandi" Gilkey, Atlanta-based hair culturist and inventor of the  "Wrap-A-Loc, " hair styling tool will conduct a workshop to demonstrate her tool and styling techniques. Sistah Nandi recently gave a well-received workshop and demonstration for ANHA members and associates during a Hair Day gathering in Dallas.

"A Nappy Hair Affair has so much talented membership," said Ms. Ali-Sabree, the program coordinator who invited the trio to be presenters. "We're very excited and honored to have them at our conference this year."

The conference is the first and oldest natural and black hair care event in the country, according to Ms. Ali-Sabree who expects  more than 2,000 people from around the country to attend.  The conference was started 13 years ago by a collective of writers, educators and counselors who were interested in raising cultural awareness in the African American community.  

The speakers and presenters represent a wide variety of talent, said Ms. Ali-Sabree.  "I would call them the "Who's Who" of the cultural and natural hair care community--from the veterans to the newcomers on the scene."
