International Conference To Discuss The Future Of Music

New approaches to online music marketing and distribution will be presented this month at the Who is in Control? Conference in Reykjavik, Iceland.

An international conference - titled Who Is In Control? – is to be held in Reykjavik on the 17th October 2007 to discuss innovative business models for music, culture and entertainment, as well as the latest trends in digital marketing, new technological opportunities and funding in the digital world.
The conference has been structured to interest all those from the creative industries - musicians, artists, advertisers, marketing people – and anyone interested in the possibilities of music on the Internet and its future development.

Who Is In Control? will look at all the latest developments in distribution and marketing on the net, from social networking and mobile entertainment and marketing to collaborations with brands. Radical ideas on new business models will be introduced; changes in consumer behaviour, copyright and control analyzed; and marketing experts will draw up case studies of creative and innovative campaigns.

Sharing their expertise, wisdom, thoughts and ideas are an impressive collection of high profile speakers from around the globe, including representatives of major record labels, marketing experts, professors, lawyers, music newspapers and websites and leading brands and chains.

Confirmed speakers include futurist Gerd Leonhard, who has been at the forefront of the Internet revolution from the beginning; Jane Pollard from Beggars Banquet and Iain Forsyth from Mute, who will discuss relevant and ground-breaking case studies; Ralph Simon, one of the founders of the modern mobile entertainment industry and Denzyl Feigelson, editorial programmer for the UK iTunes Music Store and the architect & producer of the groundbreaking 31-day iTunes Festival.

Others appearing at panels and discussions will be Alison Wenham, CEO of AIM; Adam Lewis, co-owner of the Planetary Group, an artist development and promotions firm based out of Boston; Fred Bolza, Senior Director of Digital Development for Sony BMG in the UK & Ireland; digital futurist Jakomi Mathews; Tina El-hage, Ventures Business Manager at Guardian News & Media; and Brent Muhle, General Manager for Nettwerk Music Group.

The local Icelandic perspective will be offered by online promotion guru Kitty Von-Sometime from games company CCP, Árni Matthíasson from mbl.is, former Sugarcube Einar Örn Benediktsson (founder of www.grapewire.com), Hjálmar Gíslason from Siminn, and Stefán Hjörleifsson from tónlist.is.
