The purpose of the green card lottery is to increase diversity within the United States by rewarding random lottery applicants, from numerous countries, with US visas.
Winners are selected only after completing an entry from for the DV-2009, and submitting it in a timely manner, complete and without any errors. Any minor errors or late submissions will significantly decrease your chances of being selected in the DV-2009 Green card Lottery.
Although there has been a new green card lottery every year, there is no guarantee that there will be a DV-2010. There may be a change in the US Immigration Policy, ending the Diversity Immigrant Visa Program.
Applicants will be applying for the DV-2009 Diversity Immigrant Program. The year of the program refers to the year in which the green cards are awarded. If you apply now for the DV-2009, you will be awarded your green card in 2009. Please be sure to not fill out any applications for the DV-2008, as the registration ended in December 2006.
The State Department has a set time frame for which you can apply for the 2009 Immigrant Diversity Visa Program. Applications must be submitted between October 3, 2007 and December 2, 2007.
