Chapel Hill, NC: Sharon Hill, author and president of Sharon Hill International, recently conducted a radio interview with Richard Brown on WCOM –FM 103.5, Carrboro, NC’s community radio station. The interview featured a discussion about Hill’s latest book, 35 Tips for Students to Succeed in Corporate America, and how people of color can thrive in business. Those interested in hearing the interview can listen to the show’s podcast at http://richardbrownshow.com/
During the interview, Hill discusses her research on organizational behavior and how people feel regarding their corporate experiences. For example, some of her findings address the reactions of people who attended historically black colleges and universities (HBCU), such as men from HBCUs frequently felt pressures related to race and women from HBCUs faced issues pertaining to company processes. Hill then addresses the need to relinquish “old school thinking” in order to succeed in corporate America.
“My passion is for young people, especially those of color, to achieve in business, as well as in life. As a former IBM’er and a researcher of professional behavior, I have seen many amazing employees torpedo their careers by making critical mistakes,” comments Hill. “One of the concepts I often focus on is helping people break the ice, especially when they feel racial tensions, to make positive impressions in the work place.”
